City of North Port Seeks Adopters for Home for the Holidays Program
More than 300 children are registered for the City’s annual Home for the Holidays assistance program.
The City of North Port is seeking individuals, families, and organizations that are willing to help provide a holiday experience to children who come from low-income households.
“The Home for the Holidays program connects those who want to give during the holiday season with those who truly need the help,” said Social Services Manager Janet Carrillo.
There are several ways in which people can give during the season, including:
- Participating in an Adopt-n-Shop program. Adopt a family through the City’s Social Services Division. You can adopt one family or several.
- Donating a gift card, cash, or check. Gift cards are welcome from any store. Cash or check donations are also welcome. The Social Services Division will make sure that your donation assists a family who needs it most.
This year, 175 families applied, including 379 children, through the City’s registration process. Families must be low income and live in the City of North Port to qualify. There were over 290 children who were assisted last year.
“We are a growing community and the need is growing,” Carrillo said. “We are hoping businesses, nonprofits, and individuals are willing to adopt a family and make a difference this holiday season.”
