Roadwatch Report 8-14-17


Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, courtesy, common sense, and patience as they travel through work zones. Remember, speeding fines are doubled in work zones.


Road construction scheduled for the week of December 3 – December 7, 2018:

There will be no milling or paving crews working in North Port this week.  Restoration crews will be planting sod adjacent to newly paved roadways and cleaning up construction debris throughout the City, especially in areas where milling and paving was recently completed.  Roadway shoulders will be graded and any additional low spots will be filled along the edge of the pavement.

N. Orlando Blvd, between Price Blvd and Torrington St, will be closed starting Nov 30th:

North Orlando Boulevard, between Price Boulevard and Torrington Street, will be closed starting Friday, November 30, 2018.  Crews will be replacing a stormwater pipe in the area.

US 41 from Salford Boulevard to west of Sumter Boulevard:

Crews are widening US 41 from Salford Boulevard to Sumter Boulevard to a six-lane highway; resurfacing the roadway; improving drainage; constructing sidewalk and installing highway lighting. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. when crews are resurfacing the roadway. Expect periodic driveway closures along the northbound lanes while crews are installing drainage systems.  Russell Engineering, Inc. is the contractor.  Expected completion is spring of 2019.


US 41 from Tuscola Boulevard to Ortiz Boulevard:

Crews are constructing a multi-use path; installing bus pads and shelters; improving drainage; constructing/replacing sidewalk; installing guardrail and highway lighting, and installing new signing and pavement markings. Expect nighttime/overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime lane closures between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. are possible. Lane closures within 600 feet of signalized intersections are not permitted between 5:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. is the contractor. Expected completion is spring 2019. 


US41 Linear Parking Project:

The City of North Port will be installing angled parking spots along the US 41 Access Road, between Almonte Terrace and Landover Terrace and between North Port Boulevard and Bolander Terrace.   A Florida Job Growth Grant application was approved by City Commission to fill the funding shortfall of the construction of this project.  The grants were submitted for both projects.  If awarded a grant – providing needed funds for construction, staff would rebid the project.  As of this week, there is no update regarding an award of the grant.
