North Port Fire Department Coordinates Multi-Agency Tanker Shuttle Drill
Thursday, North Port Fire Department coordinated units from North Port Fire Department, Charlotte County, Sarasota County, Nokomis, and North Port Utilities in an emergency drill using portable ponds. Crews pulled together to fill portable ponds set up at the Suncoast Technical Institute which served as a water supply. Multiple tanker trucks were filled from fire hydrants and kept the ponds full while water was pumped from a North Port pump truck. During this drill, the multi-agency team was able to reach a sustained flow of 1,000 gallons per minute and moved 111,000 gallons of water in a 5 tanker shuttle over the course of 2 hours. This type of simulation is important to help firefighters be prepared for situations where water sources may not be readily available.
