The City of North Port Fire Rescue District's Operations Division maintains the highest level of service standards through progressive training, modern tools and equipment, and proper resource management. Ongoing training is an absolute necessity: all personnel assigned to the Operations Divsion must be current in the knowledge and skills they need to fight fires, respond to medical emergencies and rescues, handle hazardous materials incidents, and potential acts of terrorism.
The Operations Division's personnel include 3 Captains (Shift Commanders), 15 Lieutenants (Station Officers) and 63 Firefighters. All personnel in the Operations Division are cross trained as either a Firefighter/Paramedic or Firefighter/ EMT. Cross-training our personnel combines both the traditional fire department and ambulance services into one very productive and highly cost effective agency. The Operations Division is led by the Deputy Chief of Operations.
The Operations Division's fleet of emergency vehicles includes: three Engine Companies and two Truck Companies. Both of our Truck Companies are 75' Quints (pictured above). A Quint is a fire truck that has an aerial ladder, pump, and water tank and can function as either a engine or ladder truck as needed. We also have four Adavanced Life Support (ALS) Rescue Companies that are transport capable ambulances. Additional we have three Brush Trucks, three Command Vehicles, an EMS ATV (All Terrain Vehicle), a High Water Transport Truck, a Utility Truck, a (RIB) Rigid Inflatable Boat, and specialized Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) and Technical Rescue trailers. In addition to our Rescue Companies, both Truck Companies and one of our Engine Companies are ALS equipped and Paramedic staffed. In reserve status we maintain an engine, two rescues, a brush truck, and a command vehicle. We are pleased to announce we presently have 2 new rescues and 1 new engine or order with delivery expected in mid-2009.
