The General Services Department works diligently to improve the overall quality of life for North Port families.
The Department is comprised of four divisions:
The General Services Administration oversees many of the capital improvement projects related to parks and open spaces (including new playgrounds, the development of blueway and greenway trails, and more); communication, outreach, and graphic design related to telling the story about the Department's projects, services, and programs; and the management of Warm Mineral Springs Park.
The Information Technology Division assists with all of the technological needs of the City, including phone systems, network computer systems, and mobile devices. While the Division works to provide City employees with the tools they need to perform their everyday tasks, the Division also consistently works to provide the public with tools. This includes interactive maps, mobile applications, streaming meetings, a financial transparency website, and more.
Parks and Recreation
The Parks and Recreation Division oversees a network of more than 20 local parks facilities (including two indoor fitness centers), 20 special events, and more than 50 regular programs. The City of North Port has been named a Playful City USA by KaBoom for more than seven consecutive years. The Parks and Recreation Division staff works hard to provide activities for the community that promote lifetime healthy lifestyles.
The Social Services Division provides resources to North Port families to improve their overall quality of life. In some cases, this can mean providing financial assistance to North Port families and individuals in crisis. In other cases, this can mean putting families in touch with external resources.
