collage of Marius Park

Marius Park was acquired by the City of North Port on June 11, 1976 when General Development Corporation dedicated the park to the City and presented the Commission with the deed to the park. The half-acre park boasts majestic live oaks along with crepe myrtle, Norfolk pine, eucalyptus, orchid, bottle brush, bamboo and several varieties of palm. Other amenities at the park include picnic tables, benches, grill and a large green space area. Unique to this park is the King Neptune tree sculpture carved in 1999 by Igor Berkkerman, a Russian-born artist and North Port resident. In 2005, Troop 352 added a dedication plaque at the site acknowledging Mr. Berkkerman’s carving. The tree sculpture was refurbished in May of 2013 by three local high school art students, one a member of the City of North Port’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
