6700 Appomattox Drive
Since opening September 4, 2010, the City’s family paw park facility has become on of the City’s most popular parks. Residents bring their canine family members to frolic while they enjoy the outdoors, shelters and seating areas. The park is located off Appomattox Drive, just west of the North Port Boulevard intersection.
The park includes decorative perimeter fencing, separate areas for large and small dogs (totaling 1 1/2 acres), shade structures, landscaping, berms that serve as a buffer for the neighborhood surrounding the park, a concrete roadway, 33 grass parking spaces, and restrooms.
In October 2015, the City completed improvements to the park including the addition of pedestrian pathways connecting the entrances to the pavilions and seating areas; new sod and sprinkler system; additional seating; new trees; replacement of deteriorating water fountains and waste bag stations; addition of dog cooling stations; and new canine agility equipment. As part of the project, the City collaborated with People for Trees, Inc. and Scout Troop #157 for the donation and planting of a new tree to enhance the entry landscaping.
For sanitary control and prevention of mosquito breeding sources, plastic wading pools are not allowed in the Canine Club facility.
Thank you for your cooperation and support of the Canine Club.
