City property taxes and District assessment rates are set forth by the North Port City Commission during the Budget and Public Hearing meetings. This process takes place June through September. The approved rates are sent to Sarasota County to be placed on the Notices and the Yearly Property Tax Bills. (This year your August Ad Valorem "TRIM" and the Non-Ad Valorem "Notices" were mailed in the same envelope.) Your yearly property tax bill is mailed the beginning of November by the Sarasota County Tax Collector. The City of North Port does not send out its own Notices or Tax Bills.
There are two parts to a property tax bill, the Ad Valorem and the Non-Ad Valorem.
"Ad Valorem" North Port Property Taxes
are based on the taxable value of property. The 2009 North Port Ad Valorem tax rate is 3.34 mills. (3.3400 per $1,000 of the taxable value.) The millage increase from 2.9805 is due to the decrease in property values and would be the 1st millage rate increase in 6 years. If your property value went down from last year, you could still be paying less Ad Valorem even with an increase in the millage rate.
"Non-Ad Valorem" North Port District Assessments
are based on services which are provided by our districts listed below.
Fire District
Road & Drainage District
