IMPORTANT NOTICE! The Southwest Water Management District (SWFWMD) Governing Board recently voted to let the Modified Phase II, Severe, Water Shortage restrictions expire on June 30, 2010.
The City of North Port is committed to preserving our valuable water resources by conserving water. The following water use restrictions are currently in effect in North Port as of July 26, 2010 to help us all achieve this goal together:
For established lawns:
Lawn and landscape irrigation is limited to two days a week. Residents living in homes with even-numbered addresses may water on Thursday and/or Sundays. Residents living in homes with odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays. These changes to previous watering days are to conform with the Southwest Florida Water Management Districts year-round water conservation measures.
Lawn watering is limited to the hours between EITHER midnight and 10:00 a.m., OR between 4:00 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. No more than ¾ inch of water may be applied to each irrigation zone on each allowable watering day. There is no watering allowed during the hottest part of the day, 10:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
Non-lawn areas such as trees, flower beds and vegetable gardens may be hand-watered without restriction to day or time.
For newly-planted lawns and landscaped areas:
New or Replacement Lawns: 30-30 estabalistment period, sixty days total, if needed. Water any day during the first 30 days. Even addresses may water only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and odd addresses may water only on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday during the next 30 days. Time of day restrictions apply.
Other New Plant Establishment: Sixty days total, if needed. Water any day during the first 30 days. Even addresses may water only on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; Odd addresses may water only on Wednesday, Friday or Sunday during the next 30 days. Time of day restrictions apply.
Fountain Operation, Car Washing and Powerwashing
There are no restrictions on fountains, car washing and pressure washing. However, SWFWMD and the City of North Port asks that residents be as efficient as possible, such as using a shut-off nozzle on their hose, so water isn't waster.
Fines for illegal watering:
Warnings will be given for the first illegal watering violation. The second violation will be a $100 fine. The third offense and subsequent offenses will result in a fine ranging from a minimum of $200 to a maximum of $500, and possible jail time.
