Post Date:10/11/2018 9:51 AM

Participate in the City of North Port’s signature holiday parade at 5 p.m. on December 8, 2018.

The City’s Parks & Recreation Department is looking for organizations, individuals, and businesses interested in having a parade unit during the annual Poinsettia Parade. This year’s theme is “Holidays Around the World.”

The annual Poinsettia Parade will travel south on Sumter Boulevard from Sylvania Avenue beginning at 5 p.m. The route will turn into City Center and finish in front of the City Center Green, which is the location of the City’s annual Poinsettia Festival, presented by Achieva Credit Union.

“If you haven’t participated before, the Poinsettia Parade is a holiday tradition in North Port. It’s a great way to show your community spirit and get involved in the community during the holidays,” said Parks & Recreation Manager Tricia Wisner. “We are hoping that your organization, business, or household wants to get involved in the parade this year. Afterward, we encourage your parade participants to enjoy North Port’s signature holiday festival.”

In the past, the parade has featured more than 50 units, including local businesses and organizations. Those interested in participating can download an application on the City’s website and return them via email at or in person at the Morgan Family Community Center, 6207 West Price Blvd. Parade applications are due by November 30, 2018. The cost to participate is $30. There is no cost for 501c3 nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and active US Military.

Spectator viewing will be available along the edge of Sumter Boulevard from Sylvania Avenue to City Hall Boulevard and then also throughout City Center. Parade participants are encouraged to utilize the parking at the Morgan Family Community Center where a shuttle will be available to travel back and forth to City Center and the parade check in area. Parking will also be available at the City Center Campus until 4 p.m., when the roads will close and not reopen until after the parade.

The parade would not be possible without the support of the City’s event partners and sponsors, including in-kind sponsors Neighborhood Watch, North Port Magazine, North Port Police Explorers, North Port Volunteer Service Aides, and the many dedicated volunteers and City employees.
