North Port Fire Rescue personnel participated in the Citizen Public Safety Academy by providing a review of driving a fire engine and a brush truck. Students were then allowed to drive these vehicles on a closed course at low speeds.

NDS BUILDING - Zoning staff conducted 134 zoning related inspections
NDS PLANNING - 25 projects currently in review; 9 projects awaiting final approval (sign off)
NDS CODE ENFORCEMENT - Closed 78 cases for code violations
Staff completed two LIHEAP financial applications utilizing external funding
Staff completed 74 information requests to the general public
During the week of May 6, 2019, Solid Waste completed 781 requests for special pick up services. These include bulk collections, container delivery, and electronic/appliance waste pick-ups.
During the week of May 6, 2019, Customer Service staff processed 665 via telephone citizen service and/or informational requests.

- Purchasing staff processed 11 purchase orders, 7 p-card approvals, and 36 vendor/contract updates.

- Big Brothers/Big Sisters toured the Utilities Cashiering Department Friday morning.
- Parks & Recreation staff processed 19 Achieve Anything memberships consisting of 6 annual memberships, 7 one-month memberships, 1 three-month membership, 3 student memberships, 1 city employee membership, and 1 D-Fy membership.
- A total of 1,427 membership and daily/drop-in visits were made to the Morgan and Mullen Community Centers.
- Community Centers facilitated 6 hours of Community Service.
- There were 16 facility rentals for a total of 29.75 hours, 11 Scout House rentals for a total of 24.5 hours, and 4 pavilion rentals for a total of 10 hours.
- The Morgan Center hosted a Teen Healthy Eating seminar in conjunction with University of Florida/Institute of Food and Agricultural Services. Sixteen teens participated and learned more about the dangers of sugar while making their own delicious (and healthy!) smoothies.
- Newcomer Day is on May 18 from 10am-12pm at the George Mullen Activity Center. Vendor space is sold out! Whether you've been here for five minutes or fifty years, feel free to stop by to get connected with our community.
- Kids to Parks day will be held at Mullen Center Playground on May 18 from 10am-12pm. Come join Parks & Recreation for free games and activities, with the chance for kids to win some prizes.
- Projects in progress include: Atwater shade installation, Boundless Adventures Playground Phase II; North Port Aquatic Center; CAPRA Accreditation, and completion of new youth league agreements.
- Aquatic Center Staff met with staff from the YMCA to discuss future opportunities to partner with their operation and potentially holding pre-opening lifeguard classes at their location.
- Aquatic Center Staff met with a potential Hydro-Aerobic instructor, as well as a representative from Freedom Aquatic Therapy as part of the programming development process. In addition, a private swim lesson program proposal has been developed and is now under review.
- Mulching continues! Parks Maintenance installed mulch at Warm Minerals Springs Park as part of our landscaping improvement plan for the site. Landscaping was also done at the Garden of Five Senses, were several shrubs were pruned.
- Several pavilions were cleaned this week by Parks Maintenance staff, including Pine, McKibben, LaBrea, Highland Ridge, and Blue Ridge Parks. In addition the tennis court at Highland Ridge and the BBQ Grill at Blue Ridge Park were also cleaned.
- There were a number of dead trees at Highland Ridge Park, LaBrea Park, Pine Park, and the Mullen Center that needed to be removed this week by staff.
- The weekly Parks Maintenance work schedule was revised to incorporate several additional parks.
- Signs for the public were installed at portage # 5 due to the construction of Water Control Structure 106. For more information about this closure and alternate routes, contact Parks & Recreation at 941-429-PARK.
- The Parks Maintenance team are keeping the sand volleyball court at Pine Park looking nice, with some grooming this week.
- Quality TV confirmed that they will be a presenting sponsor for the Poinsettia Parade again this year. This brings the total sponsors YTD up to $14,750.
- Staff updated the Aquatics page at www.CityofNorthPort.com/Pool and also launched a re-vamped Parks & Recreation Page at www.CityofNorthPort.com/ParksAndRecreation. Check them out and let us know what you think!
- Staff also spent some time connecting with the community this week! Parks & Recreation attended the annual Spring Showcase at Toledo Blade Elementary where they enjoyed Connect Four. A group from Leadership Sarasota County also explored Warm Mineral Springs Park as part of their South County tour.
- North Port residents called in six smoke detector service requests. Fire Rescue personnel checked 17 detectors, replaced 10 batteries, and installed two detectors.
- North Port Fire Rescue personnel approved 31 P-card transactions and processed 11 invoices totaling $18,054.60 for goods and services.
- North Port Fire Rescue personnel purchased $2,278.52 in EMS supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- North Port Fire Rescue personnel continue developing and updating the department Standard Operating Guidelines.
