Public invited to check out new playground, fitness stations at Highland Ridge Park
New playground equipment and an outdoor fitness station are now open to the public at Highland Ridge Park.
According to Parks & Recreation Manager Sandy Pfundheller, “Through investments such as this, the City is not only providing residents with safe and active spaces, but also increased opportunities for health, wellness and play.”
The new playground is built for ages 5 to 12 and incorporates opportunities for physical fitness through climbing, stretching, and swinging. In addition, a mini rock wall and Zipkrooz are available along with an outdoor fitness circuit for adults.
Highland Ridge Park has become a focal point for play for all ages in North Port. Last year, the City converted its bike park into outdoor pickleball courts. The courts are used by many residents throughout the day.
“We are continuously making improvements to our local parks to promote more play in our communities,” Pfundheller said. “We hope residents enjoy the latest enhancements to Highland Ridge Park.”
Prior to the selection of the components, neighborhood surveys were mailed to households located within 1,000 feet of Highland Ridge Park to solicit input regarding new play equipment and amenities. Replacement of the equipment was approved by Commission in February of 2016 and is part of the FY15-16 capital budget.
