- Yes, the Parks and Recreation Department operates the Morgan Family Community Center located at 6207 West Price Blvd. and the George Mullen Activity Center located at 1602 Kramer Way.
The Parks & Recreation Department prints an Activity & Events guide twice per year that includes a map of the parks. This is also available as a PDF on the website.
Park and facility locations can also be searched by using the City’s interactive Parks Finder application or by searching the Your Local Parks page.
- Yes, daily fees, drop in fees, memberships, and pavilion rentals are subject to resident and non-resident rates.
- If you own a home in North Port then you are entitled to the resident discount whether you live here full time or not.
- Membership will give you access to both fitness centers, gymnasiums, teen lounge and game room, plus drop in fees to programs such as volleyball, dodgeball, pickleball, and table tennis are also included with your membership. Various sports equipment along with games and controllers are available for check-out with valid membership or picture ID card. Card must be presented to check-out equipment.
- No, the senior fitness membership only applies to the individual and is available as a monthly, three month or annual membership.
- Yes, annual youth memberships are available for students age 11-17. An annual fee is charged unless the individual is an active member of Drug Free Youth (DFy).
- Drug-Free Youth (D-Fy) is an initiative for area youth in 6th through 12th grade. D-Fy members are eligible to receive local discounts and attend special D-Fy events. Holding an active membership in Drug-Free Youth (D-Fy) signifies that youth have made a commitment to being alcohol, tobacco, and drug free through a drug test.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use the fitness facility; youth ages 13-15 must be accompanied by an adult or successfully complete Fit Teen University. Any person age 16 or older is permitted to use the fitness facility on their own.
- A family membership is defined as two or more individuals residing in the same household. Family memberships can only include two members that are ages 26 and older. Proof of address is required for resident rates.
- Yes, as long as they are immediate family living at the same address with proof of address. Family memberships can only include two members that are ages 26 and older. Family member additions cannot be processed online.
If I purchase a one or three month membership and decide that I would rather do the annual, can I swap it?
Yes, you will have to pay the difference in cost. The start date on the membership will remain the date of the original purchase.- Each request to put on a hold on an active membership is reviewed on an individual basis by the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation.
There is a member in the fitness facility that is not wiping down the equipment after they use it or re-racking weights. Can you do something about this?
Yes, staff can make an announcement over the intercom system reminding all patrons to please wipe down all equipment after each use and re-rack their weights.- Fitness classes are not included in your membership. Most classes charge a per class fee or offer a multi-visit pass at a discounted rate.
I need to make a payment for a check that was returned due to insufficient funds. Can you process my payment?
Yes, staff can process your payment. Payment must be made in cash, credit or debit. Staff cannot accept a check for the payment of an insufficient funds transaction.The parks are free for anyone to use at their leisure. However, reserving a pavilion will ensure the pavilion area is designated for your use during the reserved time. It is highly recommended that pavilions are reserved for planned gatherings. Pavilions can be reserved in person at the Community Centers or online.
- The City offers adult basketball and adult co-ed kickball leagues along with instructional youth sports classes. There are several different youth sports organizations within the City of North Port that coordinate leagues including Miss North Port Fastpitch Softball, North Port Area Little League, North Port Mustangs Football & Cheer, North Port Youth Basketball, and North Port Youth Soccer.
- There are tennis courts located at Dallas White Park (5900 Greenwood Avenue), McKibben Park (5500 Trekell Street) and Highland Ridge Park (6225 Kenwood Avenue). The only lighted tennis courts open to the public are located at Dallas White Park.
- There are outdoor pickleball courts at McKibben Park and Highland Ridge Park. The courts at Highland Ridge Park are lighted. The Parks & Recreation Division also offers indoor pickleball at the George Mullen Activity Center.
The North Port Aquatic Center is under construction and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2019. Please check the project page for more information about this exciting amenity.
- Athletic fields located at Atwater Park, Butler Park, Dallas White Park, George Mullen Activity Center and the Narramore Sport Complex are owned by the City of North Port; however, the fields are managed, maintained and available for rental through Sarasota County Parks and Recreation.
Yes, the City has the Canine Club located at 6700 Appomattox Blvd. which is open daily from sunrise to sunset with the exception of Wednesday mornings when the park is closed until 12 p.m. for routine maintenance.
The City of North Port also designated 16 of its parks as dog friendly. This means that the dogs must be on a leash at all times. According to the resolution, dogs are not permitted to be near playgrounds, courts, batting cages, or sports fields. Owners must pick up their dog’s waste or they can be fined under the North Port City Code. All dogs must be vaccinated and display current tags; be on a maximum 6-foot leash at all times; and may not be tied to trees or other objects. Any dog expressing aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs must be removed from the park. Owners are subject to the Sarasota County Animal Control Ordinance. - Yes, the North Port Skate Park is located at 5651 North Port Blvd. and is open to mixed-use of skateboards, bikes and rollerblades.
