The Aquatic Facilities Master Plan, created in 2010, assessed current conditions and needs to guide future aquatic programming and the construction of new facilities.
The consultants from Kimley Horn and Associates and Councilman-Hunsaker presented to City Commission a "toolbox" of options representing a wide variety of solutions derived from community and political input to meet the diverse needs of North Port's residents.
Alternatives were evaluated based on community needs with likely capital costs, revenues and expenditures ranging from splash pads to municipal water parks. The City Commission, at the time, gave preference to a Medium Family Aquatic Center at Butler Park, spray pads within neighborhood parks, and a splash playground at Atwater Park.
