Deputy Chief Christopher Morales
Deputy Chief Chris Morales has over 19 years of law enforcement experience with the North Port Police Department. He began his law enforcement career as a North Port Police Explorer and a Sarasota County Sheriff Corrections Deputy before being hired as a police officer in 2000. Deputy Chief Morales has served many different facets of the Department beginning as a road patrol officer, Field Training Officer, Detective in property crimes and person crimes, with his longest tenure in the Criminal Investigations Division. In February of 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant assigned to road patrol and was later reassigned to the Criminal Investigations Division as the Detective Sergeant over the Person Crimes Unit. In February of 2013, Deputy Chief Morales was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Division and later promoted to Captain. He was sworn in as Deputy Chief on August 6, 2018.
During his tenure as Captain, Deputy Chief Morales was instrumental in the creation of our Department’s Computer Forensic Lab, Narcotics Unit, Special Response Team, and Traffic Unit. He offers a variety of expertise to the management team and currently oversees all operations of the agency.
Among his many accomplishments, Deputy Chief Morales has earned a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Criminal Justice from Hodges University graduating with honors Summa Cum Laude. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 264th Session and has obtained the Leadership Trilogy status through the FBI-LEEDA program. He is also the recipient of the 2014 Command Officer of the Year Award for the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs' Association.
