Captain Michael Baute
Captain Michael Baute, came to North Port Police Department as reserve police officer in July of 2018 and he was promoted to the rank of Commander in November of 2018 and currently Captain in May of 2019.
Captian Baute had 27 years of previous law enforcement experience prior to coming to the NPPD. He began his career in 1990 at a part-time dispatcher with the Treasure Island Police Department while finishing high school. Captain Baute became a sworn law enforcement with the Kenneth City Police Department in 1992. He went on to serve 25 years as a law enforcement officer at the city, county, and state level. Captain Baute served as a supervisor with two of his previous law enforcement agencies. Captain Baute held the rank of Lieutenant with Florida Attorney General’s Office and was in charge of law enforcement operations for the Tampa Bureau as well as the Miami Bureau. He held this position until the legislature merged the unit with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in 2011 where he continued to serve as a Special Agent. Captain Baute is also an adjunct instructor at St. Pete College and has instructed at other colleges and technical centers around the State of Florida. He has served in numerous capacities to include; Patrol Officer, Community Policing Officer, Field Training Officer, Narcotics Investigator, Detective in property crimes, Detective in persons crimes, Detective in professional standards, as well as a supervisor in persons crimes.
Captain Baute has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Colorado Technical University where he graduate Magna Cum Laude. He has been a member of the Tampa Bay Area Chiefs of Police Association since 2008 and a member of the Florida Police Chiefs Association since 2018. He is a court recognized expert in computer crimes, computer forensics, sexual & physical abuse investigations and interviewing child victims. Captain Baute has received numerous awards during his career to include “Thinking Out of the Box” awards as well as awards from the Governor and Attorney General.
