Criminal Investigation Division

The Criminal Investigations Division investigates felony cases reported to the Department. The Division is divided into several different sections to accommodate the specific types of crimes reported. The Units are: 

  • Person Crimes Unit

Supervised by a Sergeant and also manages the Intelligence Section. They investigate the following crimes: 

  • Murder
  • Sexual Offenses
  • Crimes Against Children 
  • Aggravated Battery
  • Robbery 

This Unit also oversees the Department’s crime analyst function and Criminal Intelligence function. The Intelligence Section monitors all criminal activity and oversees the following data:

  • Crime Analysis 
  • Sex Offender / Sex Predator 
  • Prolific Offenders 
  • Gang Activity
  • Property Crimes Unit

Supervised by a Sergeant and investigates the following types of crimes: 

  • Property Crimes – Burglary, thefts, motor vehicle thefts, and criminal mischief 
  • Economic Crimes – Fraud and financial types of crimes 
  • Special Investigations Unit

Supervised by a Sergeant and investigates narcotics related crimes. 

All detectives start their law enforcement careers as uniformed patrol officers and are assigned to Criminal Investigations based upon their knowledge, experience and investigative ability.
