Social Services is a division within the Neighborhood Development Services Department and was established in 1980 to assist families and individuals in need of short term financial assistance.  Our mission is to ensure the availability, awareness, and accessibility of programs and resources in the community, and to assist families and individuals while improving their overall quality of life.

Social Services is a tax-exempt governmental entity funded by the City of North Port. Additional funding sources are received through grants, generous individuals, churches, civic groups, schools and collaborative partners. These charitable funding sources, collaborative partners, and other outreach programs enable us to provide assistance to families and individuals that are experiencing a short term unavoidable financial crisis.

You can access 2-1-1 by phone, email, chat or text (just text your zip code to 898-211). Reaching out will get you connected to a multilingual 2-1-1 specialist in your area who can put you in touch with local organizations providing critical services to improve and save lives. Visit or download this flyer regarding 2-1-1 for further information.

Following the newly released recommendations from the CDC and public health agencies, the City will be CANCELLING the Community Baby Shower which was scheduled for March 28th.

Additionally, for the safety of our volunteers and community, The City of North Port along with the United Way will be closing all Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) locations until further notice. At this time, we must all do our part to reduce the spread of the virus. We will reopen sites once we have determined that it is safe to do so.

Taxpayers can still use My Free Taxes ( or the IRS Free File option to prepare their own return. Online support is available to taxpayers if they have questions.
